# Sikkim is a state in northeastern India. It borders the Tibet Autonomous Region of China in the north and northeast, Bhutan in the east, Koshi Province of Nepal in the west, and West Bengal in the south. The Kingdom of Sikkim was founded by the Namgyal dynasty in the 17th century. It was ruled by Buddhist priest-kings known as the Chogyal. It became a princely state of India in 1890.

*TRADITIONAL ATTIRE-

1) Sikkimese men wear traditional attire, consisting of the bakhu, tohr, dotho, and tharo.

2) Women wear a silken, full-sleeve blouse called a honju inside the kho; a loose gown type garment fastened near the waist, tightened with a belt. Married women tie a multi-coloured striped apron of woolen cloth called pangden around their waist.

* FAMOUS FESTIVAL-

Pang Lhabsol

Pang Lhabsol is a festival unique to Sikkim and is performed every year to pay tribute, honour and to propitiate the protective guarding deities of Sikkim, especially Mount Khangchendzonga, the guardian deity of Sikkim. It falls on the fifteenth day of the seventh month as per the lunar calendar.

* TRADITIONAL SPORT-

Archery is a sport which is very popular amongst the Sikkimese.

It is a traditional sport practiced here since time immemorial. It is especially played during the harvest season and can be considered as a ritual practice here. The game needs to be played wearing their traditional attire known as 'kho'.

* FOLK DANCE-

The Ghantu dance is a Sikkimese folk dance.

This ancient folk dance form depicts the colourful lifestyle of the people of the land. The dance, which is full of fun and vigour is performed by young girls in traditional costumes and headgear.
